Park Soldiers: Your Soldiers For 2009/2010

I just got an email from Travis Banks (Park Crew Manager) with the line up for the 2009/2010 season:

Your Park Soldiers:

Travis Banks
John Thorne
Morgan Bowcock
Tyler VanLeuven
Gabriel Lang
Michael Aldridge
Dan Heis
Dennis Yanzick
Matt Mickelson
Brandon Layman
Patrick Shepard

I'm going to work on getting you some behind the scenes footage of these guys doing what they do. Like I've said before, these guys have one of the hardest jobs on the hill. I've done it. First on the hill and last off. And when it's nasty out it makes for a long day. I want to encourage everyone to do two things:
  • Show them some love when you seem them out there maintaining features or even just riding.
  • Write some comments on here with props, ideas, and especially, constructive criticism.
One thing I will not stand for is shit talkin' of any kind. You want to tell them they suck and don't know how to build shit? That's fine. Just do it in a way that is respectful and intelligent. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But this blog is all about positivity. No drama allowed!

At each night jam, held once per month, we’re building you a new venue filled with unique park features and courses, throwing a party in it, and then burning it to the ground! (o.k., we’re not actually burning it to the ground, but you get the picture… it’s gonna be a good time).

News: Conway's Double Line

Today The Park Soldiers had the second jump of the double line built. Wow! Even with all the people, the shit was sick! The start mound needs to be a little bigger because once it warmed up it was hard to get speed. But if they do like last year, there will be two more smaller jumps above the two we have so the start mound will be irrelevant.

Again, great job Soldiers!

New Video: Conway's Rail Line

News: Conway's Jumps

Well the Timberline Park staff was able to amaze me yet again. I rolled up today with the expectation to get my jib on and what do I see when I roll up the lift? A beautiful 20-25 foot mini cheese wedge jump. It had a nice poppy yet smooth take off, but best of all, it had a super nice and steep landing. Overall it was a very well built jump. Especially for the first jump of the season. Oh and by the way, tomorrow, there will be two of these bad boys! It's shaping up to be an AMAZING season.

Beanies off to the Park Soldiers!

Event: MacForce Garage Sale

Come down to MacForce, it's going down this Friday!!

Huge deals on slightly used Apple Laptops and Desktops!!

If your serious about getting a new Macintosh, Friday is your day!!. Get there half hour to an hour early because there is always a line.

Photos: New Features On Conway's

Today was so AMAZING! Not only was it an EPIC powder day full of slashers and cornice drop 3's, but also the Park Crew set up a sick line of 8 rails with 7 hit-able every run. The lineup goes:

Flat Box
Street Style Single bar Rail
Metal Drum Bonk
Flat Box or Rainbow Box
Right to Left C-Box
Flat Box gap Flat Box
Street Style Hubba Ledge

Talk about an amazing start to an already EARLY season. I chatted with Park Soldiers, Travis and Morgan, for a bit today and was completely re-assured that they are going to give us an epic park season. Oh and by the way, The Soldiers told me within a couple of days, we should have two 30 footers. Yes I'm talking about JUMPS!!!

THANKS GUYS...

Speak up in the comments and show your support for the Soldiers.

Photos: Dying For A Park

Jim Weisgerber

Even though it's only the middle of November and we are really lucky to be riding what we are, people are still dying to ride a park. You wouldn't believe how many messages I've gotten in my inbox asking when Timberline plans to build some jumps. I wish I had an answer. At this point we are all at the mercy of Mother Nature. If I were to guess, I'd say we need 2-3 more feet before any jump building can go down. We rode over to Conway's and Paintbrush today and were happy to see they were busy track packing (see photos below) but there were definitely still rocks and stumps in the middle of the runs.

This lack of a park has us going out and finding anything we can to either slide or jump off.

Event: Early Season Pleasin' - Recap Video

This just landed in my inbox. Thanks Timberline.

Update: Looks like we have some HATERZ trolling around on here marking weak for no good reason. Tell us why you think this post is weak.

News: Ride Share / Gear Exchange

I've been seeing posts on facebook a lot lately about people looking for a ride to the hill. So the Jedi and I have been working on setting up a forum so people can communicate and organize rides. There is a link at the top of the page that takes you to the forum. Please comment if there is something you would like to see improved or if you have a better way to implement this service.

Friends: Northern Alliance Board Shop

You would have to be living in a snow cave for the last 5 years to not know about Northern Alliance Board Shop. Not only do they have a well positioned shop right on the main drag in sandy, but they also have the most enthusiastic group of people on Mt Hood reppin for them. The owner of the shop, Nate Langer, is one of the chillest dudes I know. Nate took some time out of his busy Saturday at the shop to write up a little history lesson on his shop. Take some time to read about NA and support this completely rider owned shop.

And Nate, thanks for the socks. You're the man.

Click here to read about Northern Alliance.

Friends: Skibowl Is Open!

You know the season is in full swing when Skibowl opens it's doors. Usually however, it's about a month from now. Mother nature has been very kind, this year, allowing Skibowl to have it's earliest opening since 1994. Maybe they will get a bunch more and we can talk them into hooking us up with a well built night park. Your comments here will be one way of starting the conversation with them.

Photos: Today's Shots

Today was another SICK day at Timberline. The crew consisted of Me, Jonny Sischo, Corey Caswell (aka Rook), Eric Gislason, Matt Guess and Krysta Pelchar. We took laps on Pucci most of the day, rippin through the Jib Line on Thunder then down Phlox to Bob Elmer. I've ridden Timberline for over 10 years and I had no idea what the names of the runs where. I had to look them up-----HAHA!

After that we rode down past the bottom of Pucci and down the Backway to Cutoff or Westpitch and back up Molly's.

All and all it was a SUPER fun day at Timberline.

Stay tuned for the video...

So I was helping The Guru get some footage back from an old iMac and we came across this clip of me wrecking hard. In fact it was probably the worst slam I have ever had! (My ass still goes numb if I sit for over 4 hours) So it gave me an idea, we want to see some of your best wreck clips. Send anything you got to timberlineparks@gmail.com

Photos: Opening Day 2009/2010 Is In The Books

Winter 2009/2010 started off today with a bang having one of the earliest openings of the lower mountain in a long time. The snow was fluffy and the weather was amazing. Not only did Timberline do a great job of getting everything rocking so we can ride pow, they even used what little snow they have to open a small jib line on Thunder. How awesome is that?
