First on the hill and last off. And when it's nasty out it makes for a long day. I want to encourage everyone to do two things:

Show them some love when you seem them out there maintaining features or even just riding.
Write some comments on here with props, ideas, and especially, constructive criticism.

One thing I will not stand for is shit talkin' of any kind. You want to tell them they suck and don't know how to build shit? That's fine. Just do it in a way that is respectful and intelligent. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But this blog is all about positivity. No drama allowed!

News: Conway's Double Line

Today The Park Soldiers had the second jump of the double line built. Wow! Even with all the people, the shit was sick! The start mound needs to be a little bigger because once it warmed up it was hard to get speed. But if they do like last year, there will be two more smaller jumps above the two we have so the start mound will be irrelevant.

Again, great job Soldiers!

Well the Timberline Park staff was able to amaze me yet again. I rolled up today with the expectation to get my jib on and what do I see when I roll up the lift? A beautiful 20-25 foot mini cheese wedge jump. It had a nice poppy yet smooth take off, but best of all, it had a super nice and steep landing. Overall it was a very well built jump. Especially for the first jump of the season. Oh and by the way, tomorrow, there will be two of these bad boys! It's shaping up to be an AMAZING season.

Today was so AMAZING! Not only was it an EPIC powder day full of slashers and cornice drop 3's, but also the Park Crew set up a sick line of 8 rails with 7 hit-able every run. The lineup goes:

Even though it's only the middle of November and we are really lucky to be riding what we are, people are still dying to ride a park. You wouldn't believe how many messages I've gotten in my inbox asking when Timberline plans to build some jumps. I wish I had an answer. At this point we are all at the mercy of Mother Nature. If I were to guess, I'd say we need 2-3 more feet before any jump building can go down. We rode over to Conway's and Paintbrush today and were happy to see they were busy track packing (see photos below) but there were definitely still rocks and stumps in the middle of the runs.

This lack of a park has us going out and finding anything we can to either slide or jump off.

You would have to be living in a snow cave for the last 5 years to not know about Northern Alliance Board Shop. Not only do they have a well positioned shop right on the main drag in sandy, but they also have the most enthusiastic group of people on Mt Hood reppin for them. The owner of the shop, Nate Langer, is one of the chillest dudes I know. Nate took some time out of his busy Saturday at the shop to write up a little history lesson on his shop. Take some time to read about NA and support this completely rider owned shop.

The History

I've been in and around the snowboard industry for about 12 years. I've worked park crew and park crew supervisor for about 4 years and then realized there is no money in the mountain business. Also we realized that Meadows will never change their park and operations no matter how hard we try, even if we infiltrate there operations. So then I decided to try and buy a bad business in sandy that was once called NRC (New Release Company). We have all worked for or with Mark Archer so we all knew how he was. I was working the Ski Fever shows for Mark and one day he mentioned that he wanted to sell the shop and get out of this business. I jumped on it and got a great business lawyer to deal with Mark and his shady ways. The rest is history.

We are in our 5th year in business and every year has been cake until this year 09/10. The recession has hit the retail industry the hardest and it has been a struggle to stay out of the red. Eating a lot of top roman has helped my broke ass out. I am not and never have been in this industry to make money. I am in it because I love this sport and the progression of it. After I realized my broken body will never go pro, I found out a way to stay in the industry and have my impact on it. Be in to something because you love it and then everything else will fall into place.

The name Northern Alliance

I got the name from trying to find something to represented the N.W. and the N.W. Mountain range. I was thinking that there can then be a Northern Alliance in Washington, Cali, and BC. They are all on the N.W. Mountain range and represent the same thing.... Snow/Mountains. As well, we as Mt. Hood locals have been riding together from the start so this is an Alliance of friends/riders. I got the logo literally from and idea from a movie. It's actually a Stephen King movie called "The Fog". On the cover of some of their movie's you will see a group of people walking through the fog which is where the logo came from.

You know the season is in full swing when Skibowl opens it's doors. Usually however, it's about a month from now. Mother nature has been very kind, this year, allowing Skibowl to have it's earliest opening since 1994. Maybe they will get a bunch more and we can talk them into hooking us up with a well built night park. Your comments here will be one way of starting the conversation with them.

Today was another SICK day at Timberline. The crew consisted of Me, Jonny Sischo, Corey Caswell (aka Rook), Eric Gislason, Matt Guess and Krysta Pelchar. We took laps on Pucci most of the day, rippin through the Jib Line on Thunder then down Phlox to Bob Elmer. I've ridden Timberline for over 10 years and I had no idea what the names of the runs where. I had to look them up-----HAHA!

After that we rode down past the bottom of Pucci and down the Backway to Cutoff or Westpitch and back up Molly's.

All and all it was a SUPER fun day at Timberline.

Winter 2009/2010 started off today with a bang having one of the earliest openings of the lower mountain in a long time. The snow was fluffy and the weather was amazing. Not only did Timberline do a great job of getting everything rocking so we can ride pow, they even used what little snow they have to open a small jib line on Thunder. How awesome is that?

Timberline will be opening Bruno and Pucci on Saturday November 7 from 9am - 3pm. One of the earliest openings ever!!!!

Well the season is about to start and I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself. I am the Afro Jedi. I will be helping out The Guru from time to time with the site. I will mostly be riding on the weekends and at night with my peeps and also as a lone star. I've been on Hood since `98 and worked at every ski resort up there.

I will only give you the facts people no bullshit.

Help Wanted: Wouldn't It Be Cool If...

I was talking with a couple of friends today and Skibowl came up. We discussed how sick it would be if Skibowl not only had "America's Largest Night Ski Area" but also had Mt Hood's sickest Night Park. Read more after the break.

Imagine it...

You get off work or out of school at 4 or 5 O'clock and book it up to Skibowl to hit your night time spin quota. I could be wrong but it seems like the only time people really go up there at night is when there is pow. I don't know shit about running a ski area. But as a rider i know that myself and a lot of my friends would be a LOT more interested in going riding there at night if there was a fun park. Even if the snow isn't perfect. And I doubt I'm alone in saying that. It seems like the added business, especially on weeknights, would more than make up for the added cost of building and maintaining a sick park.

I can picture Skibowl as the Boreal of Mt. Hood.

Then imagine if Timberline and Skibowl ever really teamed up and actually built the Gondola they've been talking about for years. Can you say: Pow in the mornings, Gondola ride to sick parks in the afternoon?

That's what dreams are made of right there my friends.

Ok so we got some names and we are having a poll right now. But don't let that stop you from trying to come up with that perfect name. If you think of something that's not in there already, throw it in the comments. If we get a bunch more we will throw them in another poll to narrow them down further.

Timberline's Parks need a name. Mammoth has the "Unbound" parks which are known world wide by name and by reputation. Timberline already has the name of the lift (Stormin' Normin) as well as the names for the individual parks (Glade, Conway's, Paintbrush) but no name for all of them to fall under. Try to make it specific to Mt Hood and more importantly, Timberline. Throw me some ideas here in the comments and who knows...maybe you will have a part in naming the Timberline Parks.

The Timberline Park Blog is up and running. I've decided I'm going to try and promote Timberline and their parks in hopes to keep funding flowing to the park department. Thus allowing them to build sick shit for my friends and I to ride. Ya and everyone too I guess.
